Sperm whales are one of the largest species of whales, and they have distinctive features that make them easy to recognize. These features include their large heads, which can be up to a third of their body length, and their square-shaped flippers. Sperm whales also have a unique body structure, with a large, oil-filled organ called a spermaceti organ in their head that helps them control their buoyancy. In pictures, they are often depicted spouting water from their blowholes, which can reach up to 20 feet high. They are known for their deep-diving abilities, as they can dive up to 3,000 feet deep in search of their primary food source, giant squid. Sperm whales are found in all of the world's oceans, and are sometimes called the 'champion divers' of the animal kingdom.
